SolidStreaming Announces Optimization for the Intel XScale Microarchitecture

In the uncertain world of wireless streaming, solution providers are seeking to optimize for all the chipsets that are in the running to become the darling of the various handset manufacturers. To that end, SolidStreaming (www.solidstreaming.com) announced the development of an optimized video port of the SolidStream video technology for the Intel XScale microarchitecture.

SolidStreaming states that it will enable advanced video streaming over 2G, 2.5G, and 3G wireless networks by optimizing its SolidStream System for the Intel XScale microarchitecture and the Intel Integrated Performance Primitives thus providing wireless device manufacturers with advanced multimedia capabilities.

But, needless to say, it is not the only company chasing after this market. Emblaze wireless announced in January that it had optimized its solution for the Intel Xscale, and PacketVideo announced its support for the architecture in August of 2000.

But SolidStreaming is hoping that its solution will take off because it is completely software-based and can be delivered wirelessly in the payload when a phone is activated. SolidStreaming states that its system is compatible with all current operating systems, and will be deployed this year to undisclosed handset manufacturers and mobile operators this year.
