SMIL 2.0

The W3C published a Last-Call Public Working Draft of the SMIL 2.0 specification last September. This ambitious specification adds animation, transitions, and other language enhancements along with new versions of SMIL 1.0 modules. SMIL 2.0's profiles are designed to ease the integration of SMIL functionality into Web pages. Once a final specification is published, SMIL 2.0 vendor support is expected by many to rapidly exceed that of SMIL 1.0. Until then, Oratrix offers a free SMIL 2.0 beta player for Windows and Mac at www2. oratrix.nl/evaluation?product_id=SM2. The W3C draft SMIL 2.0 specification can be found at www.w3.org/ TR/smil20/.
