Haivision Delivers Compact, Low Latency Dual-Channel HEVC Video Encoder

Shipping now, the latest enhancement to the Makito X encoder delivers the highest quality live video securely over the most constrained network links using HEVC/H.265 video encoding

MONTREAL AND CHICAGO(02 Aug 2016)

Haivision, a market leader in enterprise video and streaming solutions, announces HEVC dual-channel capable encoding on the industry leading Makito X H.264 video encoder, increasing the quality and efficiency of IP video streaming. The Makito X HEVC video encoder, with compact size, weight and power (SWaP) and powerful encoding performance, is designed for low latency video backhaul and transmission applications where the use of network bandwidth needs to be optimized to deliver higher quality video.

With the Makito X HEVC, Haivision has augmented the extensive capabilities of the Makito X H.264 video encoder with two HEVC encoding engines without compromising the quality and efficiency of the base four H.264 encoding engines. The Makito X HEVC includes all the developments and established core features of the Makito X, including dual 3G-SDI inputs, support of up to 1080p60 HD video, multi bitrate (MBR) streaming, extensive KLV metadata support and advanced networking capabilities including traffic shaping to optimize bandwidth performance. The Makito X HEVC also features Haivision’s SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) technology enabling high performance video delivery over the public internet and easy firewall traversal.

The Makito X HEVC is available as a compact appliance or within a 1U or 4U rack mount chassis to support up to 6 HEVC channels per rack unit. With the introduction of the Makito X HEVC, Haivision is offering attractive upgrade programs allowing customers to take advantage of the new HEVC streaming technology without disrupting their current H.264 workflows.

To create efficient video workflows, the Makito X HEVC is compatible with a wide variety of HEVC capable broadcast decoders, set-top boxes, soft players (including Haivision’s InStream Mobile), Haivision’s HEVC/H.264 transcoders, and the Haivision Media Gateway. All of Haivision’s HEVC products support SRT technology for secure and reliable transport of video across the internet.

“Customers look to Haivision for straightforward, practical solutions that work,” said Peter Maag, chief marketing officer, Haivision. “The unique combination of our HEVC video compression technology and our SRT network developments are making the possibility of low cost contribution and backhaul a reality.”
