Colin Decker is a media leader who has played a pioneering role in user-generated content, online video and the IPTV revolution.
He was an early member of the launch team at Current TV where he served as Executive Producer developing the network's earliest online programming as well as the ground-breaking social media model that merged TV with online video. In 2006, Colin created and launched VCAM, (Viewer-Created Ad Message) a first in broadcasting whereby online users were empowered to create on-air commercials for major brands. This user-generated-video model was first-to-market and helped drive record advertising revenues for an unrated first-year cable network.
At Yahoo! Colin led strategy and programming for video.yahoo.com. In this role, he worked with the major US TV networks as well as an array of independent programmers to create distinctive premium TV packaging designed to differentiate and drive the first real online video revenue of its day. The relaunched Yahoo video portal (now Yahoo! Screen) saw dramatically increased audience share and revenue while giving rise to a channel/brand integration model which has since become industry standard.
Following Yahoo! Colin served as Head of Programming at Rooftop Media, an innovative production company focused on the Comedy vertical. There, he supervised programming, distribution and audience development over more than 40 distribution partners. Leveraging its proprietary technology for remote HD capture, Rooftop Media delivered hundreds of original series for companies like Comedy Central, The Independent Film Channel and NBC as well as the major broadband portals and mobile carriers.
Through 2010 and 2011, Colin served as Senior Advisor to Richard Branson's Virgin Investments Group steering business development and analysis for prospective media investments in the emerging IPTV / OTT marketplace. Working with technology partners and the top TV networks, Colin led the service definition and investment cases for a variety prospective businesses spanning IPTV and social media.
Today, Colin serves as VP, Audience Development at Revision3 / Discovery Communications. In his role he oversees video distribution and audience development across IP channels and is tasked with setting the next-generation model of audience engagement and growth in the new landscape of web TV.
He has held teaching appointments in Film and Media Studies at Boston University and Harvard. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Bowdoin College and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film from Boston University.
