BigBand and Clearleap Team-up for IP Video Solution
New offering lets cable operators compete with OTT services by streaming to connected TVs and mobile devices.

At the Cable Show 2011 in Redwood City, California, BigBand Networks, which provides digital video networking to broadband service providers, announced an IP video delivery solution for both video-on-demand (VOD) and linear programming. The offering includes BigBand's VIP Pass solution enhanced with Clearleap's Stream on Demand system, allowing cable operators to stream both linear and VOD content to connected TVs and mobile devices.

The combined solution is meant to reduce bandwidth load on cable model termination systems (CMTS), and also to handle back-office operations, such as validation, billing, and catalog management.

The offering is targeted at cable operators who need to satisfy subscriber demands for mobile content, and want to compete with over-the-top services.

"With Clearleap, we have expanded our IP video delivery solution to support on-demand services, truly giving the operator the ability to deliver more content anywhere at anytime," says Jay Chambers, vice president and chief architect at BigBand Networks. "We believe that the combined Stream on Demand and VIP Pass solution delivers the operational ease and seamless integration that our customers are looking to accelerate the time-to-market with new services and open up a large and growing market opportunity."
