It’s often said that change is disruptive, and that’s certainly true for the way that media is distributed today. With the explosion in the number of new viewing devices -- from standard TVs to smart phones, tablets, connected TVs, DVRs, and game consoles -- today’s media landscape is radically different from just a few years ago.

The delivery of consistently high-quality media over an uncertain and constantly changing terrain is now a requirement for all content owners and distributors. While the benefits to end-users are obvious, content owners and others who prepare media for distribution are faced with significant challenges. The types and number of formats and resolutions required are exploding. Different protocols for content packaging, metadata, and delivery must be addressed. And, improved bit-rate efficiency to meet network bandwidth limitations is a must.

It is clear that with today’s media consumption -- for broadcast, cable, IPTV, OTT and mobile -- a one-size-fits-all workflow no longer works. Each distribution channel has its own unique requirements to deliver the highest quality content in the most efficient way.

The answer to meeting these changing needs lies in workflow management solutions that provide the flexibility and intelligence users need to achieve efficient content preparation, packaging, and distribution. This past year we introduced GPU-accelerated transcoding and packaging products specifically to address the multiscreen distribution challenge.
