Joost Taps Ooyala's Video Uploading Platform Technology
Mountain View, CA
Ooyala Inc., a leading online video technology provider, and Joost, a global Web video service, today announced that Joost will use a new set of ingestion, transcoding and metadata management tools provided by Ooyala. Through this integration, Ooyala and Joost have developed a custom version of Ooyala?s cutting-edge content ingestion, transcoding and analytics platform that will provide a set of upload tools for select Joost partners.
"We are determined to find and implement best-of-breed solutions so we have a set of tools that help us service all content partners of all sizes seamlessly and efficiently," said Mike Volpi, CEO of Joost. "Specifically, for some of our partners with fewer resources or smaller libraries, we were looking for an easy-to-use content upload and ingestion service that integrates smoothly with our existing tools and infrastructure. Ooyala Backlot's modularity and extensibility will deliver this for us, and as an added bonus, they support a broad range of ingestion and output formats."
The Ooyala partnership provides an easy-to-use interface with high-quality video encoding services for Joost's partners, as well as an admin console that can be used by Joost to manage dozens of publishing relationships. The partnership between Ooyala and Joost demonstrates how companies are outsourcing certain functions of their video architecture to maximize the value of their business model. Implementing Ooyala will help Joost reduce the friction in the ingestion, transcoding and publication processes for content partners with fewer resources or smaller libraries.
"We are excited to be working with Joost and their partners. Our goal has always been to create the tools that will enable our customers to increase the velocity of innovation in the online video space," stated Bismarck Lepe, CEO of Ooyala. "With these new publishing tools, Joost and other video destination sites will be able to better manage the increased number of publishers who are pushing high-quality video content on the Web."
Founded by Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstr?m, Joost brings video and social interaction together online. All of the video on Joost is professionally produced and streams on-demand to people around the world for free in a high-quality format. Today, Joost has more than 57,000 program elements, including more than 400 television series and 1,200 movie and short film titles, and 18,000 music videos.
