Dr. Rehman is the key researcher and inventor of SSIMPLUS. It puts the Human Visual System (HVS) in software and can virtualize the viewing experience of humans by device, viewing conditions and content type at every stage of the streaming pipeline. He led the SSIMWAVE team to acquire the world's top MVPDs (Multichannel Video Programming Distributors) as customers in just 16 months of commercialization. Today, SSIMWAVE's software directly affects the viewing experiences of well over 25 million television viewers in the US and Canada 24/7. The company has seen 6x growth in 2017 with no signs of slowing.

Abdul is a member of the team awarded a PrimeTime Engineering Emmy Award. The Television Academy had this to say, "SSIMWAVE's measurement standard represents a generational breakthrough in the video industry." The American Society of Cinematographers created a technical working group named after the company he founded, "SSIMWAVE".  Abdul has more than thirty top-tier research publications and patents in the areas of image & video processing, quality assessment, compression, streaming, and optimization. Abdul holds a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Systems from the University of Waterloo and Master's in Communications Engineering from the Technical University of Munich.
