Zhou Wang

Chief Science Officer

Dr. Wang, a Fellow of the IEEE and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, is one of the world’s most cited authors in the field of perceptual video quality assessment and quality-driven video processing, compression and communications, with over 43,000+ citations by Google Scholar. He is the recipient of the 67th PrimeTime Engineering Emmy Award for his groundbreaking work on Structural Similarity (SSIM) video quality algorithm. He was also awarded the 2009 Best Paper Award and the 2017 Sustained Impact Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society. His work led to the creation of the American Society of Cinematographers technical working group that focuses on HDR evaluation. Dr. Wang co-founded SSIMWAVE Inc., for which he currently holds the title of Chief Science Officer. Dr. Wang is also a Professor and University Research Chair at University of Waterloo, where he is directing a world leading research lab working on a wide spectrum of problems on multimedia quality-of-experience and multimedia communications.
