Picture of Derrick FreemanDerrick Freeman earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He started his career at WHIO-TV as a Video Editor and Technical Director for their cable news. Derrick has 11 years of experience in video production, 10 years of videography experience and 8 years of experience as a non-linear editor. He has been compressing video for 13 years and has spent the last 14 years researching and implementing streaming media. Derrick was also an instructor, in the Design Department at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio for 5 years, teaching Computer Basics for Mac, Digital Video, Photoshop and Interactive Digital Theory.

Derrick has served as an Instructor and Video Streaming and Compression Consultant for Freeman Compression Inc. for 6 years. He has provided training and consulting to many companies, individuals, and organizations through Freeman Compression. He has specialized in providing video streaming training, compression training and consulting to clients on-line, on-site and in-class.

Derrick has provided video streaming and compression training to the following organizations: Northwestern California University School of Law, Harvard Medical School, UCLA, VA Medical Center - Palo Alto, Intermountain Healthcare, WellStar Health System, University of Central Florida, Wichita State University, Central Virginia Community College, El Paso Community College, Disney ABC Television Group (Singapore), Apple Europe Ltd. (United Kingdom), United States Postal Service, and many others.

Currently, Derrick works at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, in the Center for Continuing Medical Education, and produces their CME Webcast, OSU MedNet21. He provides technical support to about 32 subscribing hospitals that utilize their weekly 40 webcasts for physicians. In addition, Derrick recommends technical tools to use for the webcast, creates compression presets to use for encoding, produces video segments, works with physician presenters, and designs streaming media production workflows to use for the OSU MedNet21 webcast and on-line CME education.
