Brightcove Highlights HTML5 Video Use

HTML5 video is succeeding for companies of all sizes across the Web. That's the message of a Brightcove blog post that shows off what some Brightcove customers are doing with it.

One example shown on the blog post is Andrew Zuckerman, a photographer and filmmaker who has turned his latest project, Music, which offers photographs of and thoughts from over 50 musicians, into an interactive iPad app.

Another example comes from Warehouse, a UK fashion retailer. Like Zuckerman, Warehouse has used the Brightcove iOS SDK to create an app, this one for e-commerce. The catalog makes generous use of video.

The blog post throws out some interesting stats on HTML5 use. It already accounts for 54 percent of all video content on the Web, the post says.

Noting Brightcove's own support for the growing format, the post points out that Brightcove Smart players automatically detect the device and connection being used, so they deliver the correct format and version. The same Brightcove player can stream Flash and HTML5 video.

"Companies as big as The New York Times and as small as the blossoming start-up Yodle are taking advantage of Brightcove's robust support for mobile and HTML5 video, with basic tools like our out-of-the-box Smart Players available to all Brightcove editions, or in custom developed iPad and iPhone apps with our SDKs," the post says.

Companies that activate a $99 per month new Brightcove account by November 30th will get a $50 Apple gift card. Those that activate a $199 per month account by the same date will get an iPod Touch. Finally, those that activate a $499 account by that date will get an Apple iPad.
