Imagine Communications Creates Multiscreen Cloud Video Platform
Perhaps getting a jump on NAB announcements, global video infrastructure company Imagine Communications put out word today that it's introducing CloudXtream, a cloud-based video platform for streaming video and serving ads to multiple screens.
A modular platform, CloudXtream is so far comprised of CloudXtream cDVR and CloudXtream Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI). cDVR is the engine that lets viewers get any available content streamed to any device. Just as with a physical DVR, viewers can rewind and replay at will. Publishers can use cDVR to personalize content delivery and introduce paid options, such as increased storage or playback abilities.
The DAI module lets publishers maximize the value of ad inventory by targeting viewers across devices. It works with linear, nonlinear, and cloud DVR content, and prevents viewers from seeing the same ad spots too many times on different devices.
“The value of an advertisement can be reduced or discounted altogether when it is stale, not the optimal ad for a particular avail, or the ad is not relevant to the viewer,” says Sarah Foss, vice president of product management and advertising management systems for Imagine Communications. “The advertising ecosystem works best when viewers and advertisers see the value of relevant ads, which increases monetization opportunities for VSPs.”
Imagine Communications will show the CloudXtream platform at NAB.
A consortium is near, says Imagine CEO, that will advance open standards for IP and drive the industry forward.
The combined solution lets broadcasters create custom end-to-end workflows that stream linear content to over-the-top audiences.
The move—the fourth recent acquisition by Imagine—further consolidates the TV Everywhere landscape, and is focused on ad-insertion technology.
