Elemental Intros Delta, Aims to Simplify Multiscreen Delivery
Video solutions company Elemental Technologies has planned a major debut for IBC: Elemental Delta, an ambitious video delivery platform that aims to solve problems with multiscreen delivery, reduce delivery costs, and add time-shifting services. Delta integrates with a variety of partners for related services (such as thePlatform for a CMS; EMC Isilon for storage; Microsoft PlayReady, Verimatrix, Inside Secure, and Irdeto for DRM; and thePlatform and Adobe Pass [later this year] for authentication) to provide a comprehensive end-to-end delivery system. Delta has been in beta testing for months with telcos, over-the-top (OTT) TV broadcasters, and satellite and mobile operators around the globe.
Time-shifting features available from Elemental Delta include catch-up video-on-demand, start-over functionality for replaying a live broadcast from the beginning, and cloud DVR controls. Delta can ingest transport streams, HLS, and Smooth Streaming, and output HLS, HDS, Smooth Streaming, and MPEG-DASH. It supports the H.264 and H.265/HEVC codecs. Elemental is in the process of adding fragmented MP4 input and output, as well. Playback works with customers' proprietary video clients with no special integration needed.
Elemental says Delta will combine just-in-time packaging, origin services, intelligent caching, dynamic ad insertion and ad replacement, and encryption in one platform.
Delta will simplify the complexity of multiplatform delivery, Elemental says, positioning the product as a response to the increased demand for mobile video and the problems mobile viewers face, such as long response times and high packet loss.
“This necessitates a new class of video delivery infrastructure, such as Elemental Delta, that is specifically architected for multiscreen content delivery and emerging, value-add live-to-VOD services,” says Aslam Khader, chief product officer for Elemental.
IBC attendees can get a better look at Elemental Delta at Hall 4, Stand 4.B75 in the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre.
