DVEO Partners with RealNetworks for Telco-Grade Servers
DVEO announced that it has signed a license agreement with RealNetworks, and will now offer telco-grade video encoding, transcoding and distribution servers based on Real's Helix Universal Server. Owned by San Diego, California-based Computer Modules, Inc, DVEO sells digital video products to broadcasters.
DVEO has announced two models in the Helix-based line. LiveMedia Anytime: Telco works with stored and live groomed video (meaning video that's been preformatted) or ungroomed video, streaming to mobile devices, set-top boxes, and connected TVs. Reality Anytime: Telco can steam pre-groomed live video and stored video-on-demand files. Both models list for $6,000 to $27,000, and both can stream to 500 users at one time. To handle greater demand, broadcasters can add Intel solid-state drives.
The Helix Universal Server, DVEO notes, streams to a variety of platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, iOS, Android, and connected TVs. It includes MPEG-DASH support, and can ingest a variety of file types. It can output files to content delivery networks and service providers.
"We partner with solid companies such as DVEO who bring high value to our ecosystem," says Mike Womack, the senior director for RealNetworks' Helix Division. "Helix Universal Server streams live and on-demand content to any IP device -- including smart phones, PCs, tablets and more."
