Adobe and thePlatform Partner for Delivery and Monetization Alliance
Adobe and video management and publishing company thePlatform are joining together in what they call an alliance to provide secure video management and publishing for those using the Adobe Flash platform. The partnership will bring the security benefits of Adobe Flash Access software as well as HTTP Dynamic Streaming to thePlatform's media customers. ThePlatform is a subsidiary of Comcast and its clients include Associated Press, Cablevision, NBC Local Media, PBS, Sony BMG, and Time Waner Cable.
The agreement is far-reaching, but Marty Roberts, thePlatform's vice president of sales and marketing summarizes it like this:
"We have had a positive working relationship with Adobe for many years, but today's strategic alliance goes further and focuses on areas beyond the presentation of Flash videos. Specifically, this new initiative focuses on helping our collective customers: 1) protect and monetize premium content (via Adobe Flash Access), 2) ease mobile publishing for Google Android devices that render Flash, and 3) expand content delivery with HTTP Dynamic streaming to deliver on-demand and live video on both desktops and portable devices, including content packaging and positioning of the multi-bitrate files on content delivery networks (CDNs)."
thePlatform now offers a new management console, called MPX, which was built suing Adobe Flash Builder 4 and includes an Adobe AIR client. Customers can upload, manage, and publish their video with its Web-based interface.
"The alliance with thePlatform, a leading video management and publishing services provider, is consistent with our strategy of helping video professionals extend the Flash Platform and make the most of their premium content," says Pritham Shetty, vice president of video solutions at Adobe.
The three networks join several others from NBCU that are already thePlatform customers.
