Streaming Media, Inc. invites leading industry executives and innovative entrepreneurs to keynote, provide general session presentations and participate in panel discussions and roundtables at Streaming Media events.

Streaming Media West – April 15-17 at the San Jose Convention Center
All proposals are due no later than November 14, 2002.

What does Streaming Media look for in a speaker?
In deciding on speaker proposals, Streaming Media Inc. looks for industry insiders with vision, knowledge and influence - speakers are usually senior-level executives (CXO, Director, Sr. Analyst, President, Sr. VP, etc.) from companies in enterprise, entertainment and information media, streaming media technology and related industries. In particular, we look for speakers who are industry pioneers or have interesting business strategies or case studies to discuss. We avoid companies and individuals who are known for giving vendor sales pitches of any kind! If it is determined that a speaker presented a sales pitch, that company and speaker is excluded from future events.

SPEAKING ROLES
The Panel Discussions
Many sessions at Streaming Media Events are run in an informal discussion setting with a moderator and panelists. Panelists generally do not make any presentations, but rather are asked to speak on a topic in a free-flowing manner. These speakers are considered experts in their field and/or are representatives from leading companies in the sector.

The Moderator
Moderators are selected based on their ability and/or expertise in the subject manner of the session. Upon selection, each moderator is required to do careful research of the session topic and make a concerted effort to work with the panelists prior to the event. The moderator's role during the panel discussion is to introduce the panel topic and the panelists and make sure that panelists limit their introductions to the allotted time. His/her role is to guide the panel through the discussion and/or presentations, make sure the session flows smoothly and keep the discussion on topic. As an advocate for the audience, the moderator also makes sure that panelists do not veer off-track and turn their speaking opportunity into a sales pitch.

The Panelist
All speakers submitted are considered for a panelist slot on pre-determined sessions. If selected, each panelist has 2 minutes to introduce themselves, their company and their role in the session. The panelist's role is to contribute to the discussion in an effective manner while maintaining some neutrality about his or her own organization. We strongly discourage marketing pitches - as does our audience - so we appreciate each of you making sure that NO ONE on the panel makes a pitch. All panelists are required to have a discussion with the moderator and other panelists prior to the conference, and may or may not be asked to make a presentation.

Standalone Presentations
Standalone Presentations and Instructional Sessions provide a speaker and/or company the opportunity to present a specific non-biased idea, argument, report or instruction that is not offered in a panel session. This is not an opportunity to present a vendor sales pitch, but rather to share compelling and enlightening information or provide instruction on a specific subject. Presentations are one hour long and should use a case study approach. If a presentation is selected, the final curriculum is subject to review and approval by Streaming Media.

The Presenter / Instructor:
Presenters and Instructors are responsible for creating and presenting a clear argument, idea, research report or lesson to the audience. Each presenter must have well-organized and thought out materials along with the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. They should be the analysts, practitioners, authors, developers and senior level executives in their subject areas.

Keynote Presentations
Each Streaming Media event offers a limited number of keynote speeches that feature well-known and respected industry luminaries in streaming or related industries. Past keynote speakers include Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, Robert Pittman, Christie Hefner, Rob Glaser, Sam Donaldson, Jerry Yang, Michael Robertson, John Sculley, Mark Cuban, and David Neuman, to name a few. Preferred presentations are ones that provide enlightening insight, compelling and relevant information and a strong call to action to the industry. Most importantly, we look for those individuals or organizations that are leading this exciting new media revolution.

MODERATOR, PANELIST AND PRESENTATION SELECTION PROCESS
What is the deadline for submitting proposals?

All proposals for Streaming Media West are due no later than November 14, 2002.
Submissions received after these dates may or may not be reviewed and/or considered for placement.

What is the selection process?
Sending in a submission does not guarantee selection! All submissions that have been filled out completely are reviewed and considered for placement. The selection process is based on the speaker's knowledge, experience and qualifications in the industry, how he/she fits into the conference program, the topic suggested and the relevance to the audience. Although a speaker may be considered an expert, he/she may not be appropriate for any of the conference sessions or presentations in the current program, or a presentation may not be considered relevant to the overall theme of the conference.

If the potential panelist or presentation has been determined an appropriate fit for the program, the panelist/presenter is contacted by a Streaming Media staff member. Once confirmed, the speaker receives a confirmation via email.

How do I know if a proposed panelist or presentation has or hasn't been selected?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of speaker proposals received by Streaming Media, we're only able to notify successful applicants. However, we keep all proposals and re-consider them when planning future events.

If your Speaker or Presentation submission is Selected
1) Speakers are contacted by a member of the Streaming Media staff.
2) Speakers and presentations are promoted in the Event Show Guide distributed to all attendees, exhibitors and members of the press, and on the Streaming Media Events web site. The web site is updated on a weekly basis.
3) Speakers receive a Full-Access Speaker badge, which admits them to all Conference sessions, the Exhibition floor and all Conference social events.
4) Speakers are required to provide reasonable additional information as requested by Streaming Media (such as full contact details, photos, bios, etc.).
5) You may be responsible for providing Streaming Media with a master copy of your presentation.
6) All conference sessions may be recorded and made available as audio or video on demand on our web site. By accepting to participate as a speaker, you understand that Streaming Media may be making this available for public consumption.
Please Note: Streaming Media Inc. does not pay honorarium, travel expenses or reimbursement fees of any kind.

Substitution Policy:
Speaker substitutions are not permitted, except in the case of an emergency and subject to approval by Streaming Media Inc. In the event a speaker cannot fulfill his/her commitment, the presenting company is not guaranteed a speaking slot for an alternate representative. Streaming Media reserves the right to refuse an alternative speaker and pursue other interested parties to present that topic or replace the panel slot.

By submitting a speaker submission, the speaker agrees to the terms listed above.
