Brian Grey, a veteran of online media and sports marketing, is general manager of Yahoo! Sports, the #2 sports site on the Internet. Grey guides both the strategic and technical direction of the site, and is ultimately
responsible for production, business development, engineering and marketing efforts. Anchored by a number of strategic agreements with leagues and companies such as the National Basketball Association, Player’s Inc, The MLBPA, USA Today, The Sporting News, TheInsiders.com, Sports Illustrated Interactive and GolfServ, Yahoo! Sports has grown to include up-to-the-minute news, real-time stats and scoring, broadcast programming, fantasy games, sports e-commerce, and an impressive list of exclusive analysts.
Prior to joining Yahoo! in October 2001, Grey was vice president for business development at Shutterfly where he was instrumental in securing strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Dell, and Verizon among others. He also spent two years with Netscape, serving as director of consumer programming on Netcenter, which included sports, news, music, health, and entertainment content. Grey began his sports business career in the global sports marketing department at Nike, where he worked on various interactive and online media initiatives, including the original Tiger Woods video game licensing agreement between Nike and Electronic Arts.
A Portland, Ore., native, Grey has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from Pacific University (1990), MA in Economics from UC Santa Barbara (1991), and his MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA (1997).
He has also spent time as pitching coach at UC Santa Barbara in 1993, and scouted for the Chicago White Sox in 1994-95.
