Ross Video Rolls With Ikegami HDK-95C Full Digital Portable CMOS Cameras for New Mobile Production Unit

RMP was created to provide broadcast quality production to mid-market events, where smaller venues can be served cost effectively by smaller mobile production units equipped with world-class solutions

The Ikegami HDK-95C Full Digital Portable CMOS camera system has been chosen for the debut of Ross Mobile Productions (RMP), a new division of Ross Video. In total, RMP has purchased 10 of the Ikegami HDK-95C cameras for the division's launch.

RMP was created to provide broadcast quality production to mid-market events, where smaller venues can be served cost effectively by smaller mobile production units equipped with world-class solutions. In addition, RMP's first unit, Future is Now (FIN) 3, is the forerunner of a modular design called openTruck, which will allow outside companies to fabricate their own mobile production trucks to RMP's exacting specifications, to ensure consistent results industry-wide.

FIN3 is already out in the field, rolling with five Ikegami HDK-95C cameras onboard. "The camera chain is of the utmost importance and we wanted to have the highest quality capture devices available," says Mitch Rubenstein, President of Ross Mobile Productions. "We chose Ikegami to ensure that RMP's production capability is the best it can possibly be."

Part of Ikegami's Unicam HD line, the HDK-95C HD portable digital camera is equipped with Native multi-format 2.5 million pixel, 2/3 inch CMOS sensors. It also features an upgrade path to 24p and 3G formats, including 1080/60p and 4:4:4 24p.

Versatility is also a key component of the HDK-95C's design: providing end-to-end digital processing, it features a low-profile docking camera head for fiber, triax, or wireless applications. "Several camera solutions allow us to have two camera backs, one for triax and one for fiber," Rubenstein says. "But, these are small production vehicles, so space is at even more of a premium than usual. The Ikegami HDK-95C provided us a dual function CCU, which enabled us to get twice the functionality within a compact footprint."

With Ikegami cameras specified in many Ross Video projects, the company has high expectations in terms of reliability and support. "We've partnered with Ikegami many times in the past, and we've always received great service from them," notes Rubenstein. "We know that RMP will get the industry's best support from Ikegami."

Entering the mobile production arena is a daunting challenge. However, having Ikegami onboard means Ross Mobile Productions is ready to take it on. "This is a new direction for Ross, and we're filling a big gap in the market," says Rubenstein. "With the Ikegami HDK-95C, we got the picture quality and the flexibility we needed for a fast start."
