Viblast Player update makes it world’s first P2P-capable HTML5 DASH/HLS player

Viblast equip their innovative player with hybrid delivery mode and invite customers to “Switch it on!”

Sofia, Bulgaria(21 Oct 2015)

Viblast, peer-assisted delivery innovator, released a noteworthy update to Viblast Player introducing hybrid delivery mode functionality. This made their solution the only P2P-capable player with native HTML5 HLS playback on the market.

Hybrid delivery mode adds a P2P layer on top of any CDN or in-house streaming solution, essentially implementing the company’s flagship hybrid delivery solution Viblast PDN in an instant. This implementation has the benefits of making streaming infrastructures more robust in handling sudden changes in demand or network speed and improving viewer quality of experience.

“Multicast delivery has long been regarded as the panacea of live video delivery; however, it remains impractical. Hybrid delivery is the best alternative to multicast existing to date,” said Stefan Dimov, CEO of Viblast.

The hybrid delivery feature is available immediately to all Viblast Player customers using version 6.06 or higher. Hybrid delivery mode utilizes Viblast PDN optimization and requires a monthly subscription, but the free 30-day trial offers anyone with a valid player license to experience the latest in video delivery technology with no extra effort or transactions.

To achieve optimal results with peer-assisted delivery, Viblast recommend using it for live streams with 500 or more concurrent viewers who are not too dispersed geographically. There is no upper limit as P2P technology is by definition highly scalable. Hybrid delivery also works impressively well within managed networks (e.g. for enterprise video). The company does not recommend such a setup for VoD streams unless they have very high concurrency.

About Viblast Player
Viblast Player is one of very few solutions able to play HLS streams without Flash or any other plugin in HTML5. Besides ABR playback of live and on-demand content, it handles encrypted HLS and DRM-protected DASH streams. Viblast Player enables content owners and operators of all backgrounds to migrate to HTML5 and deliver optimal streaming performance using just the video tag and a little Viblast JS magic. The result of over four years of work on over-the-top (OTT) video, Viblast Player is built to enable playback of modern video formats in modern browsers.

About Viblast
Viblast is the company behind Viblast PDN, winner in Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice awards, Delivery Network category and Best Innovation 2014 at WebRTC Global Summit 2014. Viblast PDN is a software solution that optimizes video delivery to large numbers of simultaneous viewers through patent-pending peer-assisted technology. It scales real-time and relieves last-mile video traffic congestion while reducing reliance on costly streaming infrastructure. The technology seamlessly complements existing delivery solutions (CDN/in-house deployments) and does not require browser plug-ins.
