VOD transcoding on the fly from CDNvideo

CDNvideo - a content delivery network operator (CDN) in Europe and Russia - has announced the launch of "VOD transcoding on the fly" service, which enable quick and simple transcoding and adaptive streaming of the content.

Moscow, Russia(28 Aug 2012)

CDNvideo - a content delivery network operator (CDN) in Europe and Russia - has announced the launch of "VOD transcoding on the fly" service, which enable quick and simple transcoding and adaptive streaming of the content. CDNvideo new service is unique for the CDN market and is especially interesting for the news sites, that are interested fastest possible upload of its videos, the company said.

Without the new CDNvideo service usage of adaptive transmission requires from a content provider to convert video files first  - the number of supported bit rates, which significantly increased the amount of video archive, consumes additional time and resources.
With the CDNvideo video transcoding solution it is enough for content provider just to upload a single copy of the video in high quality. The new CDNvideo service gets requests from users and makes them a transcoding video streams at different bit rates
literally "on the fly", the company said.

The new service supports both basic CDNvideo adaptive streaming formats: Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) and Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). All common consumer devices, including iPhone, iPad, tablets and smartphones based on Android, laptops, PCs, set-top boxes, etc.

Video is delivered to a consumer over a CDN network of CDNvideo. In this case, download the original file from the primary server starts only when the first user begins viewing. At this point the necessary fragments are formed in the requested bitrate and are broadcasted to the user and also cached on  distributing servers of CDNvideo network.
This video delivery mechanism reduces storage and data encryption costs, as it removes the   necessity to create and maintain multiple versions of a video file, corresponding to different bit rates, said the CDNvideo.
