Tightrope Media Systems Adds Cloud Streaming Applications to Cablecast

New Cablecast Reflect service, integration with Open Media Project emphasizes quality of experience for live, on-demand viewers

St. Paul, MN(02 Apr 2014)

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, April 2, 2014 Tightrope Media Systems is increasing the quality of experience for local cable access station viewers with new multiplatform streaming solutions to support live and on-demand content, including TV programs and local government meetings.  At the 2014 NAB Show (Las Vegas Convention Center, April 7-10, Booth, Tightrope Booth C6508), Tightrope will introduce new cloud-streaming solutions and legislative software integration within its Cablecast server and automation products, extending capabilities without increasing workload for station operators.

The new Cablecast Live Reflect and VOD Reflect services automatically populate on-air content to both the central Cablecast server and its associated cloud environment.  Files and streams are automatically stored and subsequently delivered to targeted platforms, including the web and mobile devices.

Importantly, Tightrope’s new Cablecast Reflect services help PEG channels and community broadcasters preserve network resources by freeing up bandwidth traditionally used by on-site storage and playout applications.

“By leveraging the cloud, our customers can reallocate bandwidth to other important network needs,” said Steve Israelsky, Broadcast Solutions Lead, Tightrope Media Systems.  “Similarly, our larger broadcast audiences can leverage the Reflect services to free bandwidth for streaming popular live events, where large online viewing audiences are expected.”

Both Reflect services deliver multi-bitrate streams to ensure high-quality playout across every consumer platform.  Broadcasters can additionally set stream quality levels for VOD programs to provide the best possible balance between on-screen content and required network bandwidth resources.

Open Media Project – For Governments

Tightrope has also announced an integration with the Open Media Foundation’s cloud-based, open-standards government webcasting solution. Called Open Media Project for Government (OMP), the software seamlessly integrates with Tightrope’s Cablecast Live, Cablecast VOD, and Cablecast Reflect streaming services.  The integrated solution already has a successful launch at the state and local government levels in Colorado.

The OMP software service includes searchable, integrated session libraries and agendas; and time-stamped, indexed video to quickly access specific bills, issues and other content of interest. Integration with Cablecast servers provides Tightrope’s government and educational customers with a feature rich and affordable solution for covering live public meetings and offering them on demand.

“Tightrope’s customer-friendly approach to content scheduling and playout aligns well with our open-source approach of empowering governments and nonprofits with affordable video-on-demand solutions,” said Tony Shawcross, executive director, Open Media Foundation. “Together, our integrated solution provides easier access to richer content so viewers can more effectively see their governments at work.  Following the successful Colorado project, we're excited to launch the service nation-wide in partnership with Tightrope.”
