Revision3 Replaces In-House Encoding – Moves to Encoding.com’s Cloud-Based Turbo Encoding

Encoding.com replaces Revision3’s in-house encoding system with Encoding.com’s powerful cloud-based video encoding platform. Leveraging Encoding.com’s scalable cloud-based platform, with accelerated encoding features and universal video support, Revision3

San Francisco, CA (14 May 2012)

Encoding.com, the world’s largest video encoding service, has replaced Revision3’s in-house encoding system with Encoding.com’s powerful cloud-based video encoding platform.  Revision3, the leading Internet Television network, entertains an audience of more than 23 million unique users on the full range of mobile devices and browsers, totaling more than 100M video views a month. Leveraging Encoding.com’s scalable cloud-based platform, with accelerated encoding features and universal video support, Revision3 is able to meet its goal to “put video on anything with a screen.”

Revision3, an Internet video pioneer and leading special-interest video network, creates and produces over 30 high-quality HD, original weekly and daily episodic video programs, ranging from a few minutes to nearly one hour in length.  To maximize viewership, Revision3 generates multiple output renditions for each source video, so that fans can watch at any time from any device: web, mobile phone, tablet, or set-top box. Originally focused on content targeting a tech base, Revision3 has recently added “channels” where fans can tune to Rev3Games and Rev3Tech.  Rev3Game features content from popular Revision3 shows including Destructoid, New Challenger and The Totally Rad Show.  Rev3Tech includes content from Tekzilla, AppJudgment, TechnoBuffalo, and Soldier Knows Best, as well as special segments coinciding with product announcements and industry events.

Revision3 realized that the in-house encoding of its massive amounts of content, into all the formats needed, had become a scaling bottleneck as well as a resource drain.  Revision3 migrated from its own transcoding servers to Encoding.com’s powerful, cloud-based parallel processing for its video encoding, allowing for a cost-effective, scalable, and flexible solution. In addition to the benefits offered by the cloud, Revision3 also relies on Encoding.com’s domain expertise and attention to rapid technology evolution in video, to manage the technical details that ensure viewability on new formats and devices in the market.

“Working with Encoding.com has enabled our Production team to focus its energies on generating superb quality output, while eliminating the overhead of managing encoding infrastructure in-house,” said Rob DeMillo, CTO of Revision3. “The Encoding.com team has been very responsive to our needs and continues to build out new features to meet our evolving requirements.”

“Participating in Revision3’s move to its cloud-based, end-to-end publishing, encoding, and distribution platform has been an exciting project for Encoding.com,” said Jeff Malkin, president of Encoding.com.  “While the Revision3 team focuses on producing exceptional new original content, we ensure delivery of its videos on all devices, browsers, and tablets, both now and in the future.”
