IPTV Packet-Loss Issues Solved

Motama to demonstrate RelayCaster Streaming Protocol (RSP) on Broadcom-based set-top boxes at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas, April 16-19, 2012.

Saarbruecken, Germany(11 Apr 2012)

RelayCaster server appliances offer a turn-key solution that enables optimized transmission of IPTV streams. By using the RelayCaster Streaming Protocol (RSP), reliability and data rates of streaming live content along lossy long distance links, such as the public Internet, can be greatly improved.

Having proven its value for live distribution of streams between data centers, Motama's RSP has now taken the next step: At NAB, Motama will introduce the first deployment of the protocol on Broadcom-based set-top boxes. As a first reference, products from CIMA distributed by See-IP.tv will be demonstrated, in particular IP300 for operators and IND300 for Digital Signage and TV in public places.

Compared to streaming with UDP or RTP, Motama's RSP greatly reduces packet loss and thereby significantly increased the Quality of Experience for end-users. Compared to streaming with TCP or higher-level protocols, such as HTTP, much higher bandwidths can be achieved with Motama's RSP - in particular when streaming over lossy links.

With Motama's RSP now being employed on set-top boxes, lossy links on the last-mile can be handled efficiently - for managed IPTV services of service providers as well as for Over-The-Top (OTT) services purely relying on public Internet infrastructure. In both cases, RelayCaster servers handle the distribution of streams to data centers at different locations, and also to RSP-enabled set-top boxes.

In addition to RelayCaster and RSP, Motama will present the complete set of IPTV server products required for building a streamlined and cost-effective backbone for live Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming.

TVCaster is a turn-key solution offering all cutting-edge functionality you expect from an integrated DVB receiver, descrambler, remultiplexer, and IP streaming server. TVCaster servers available for DVB-S/S2, DVB-C, DVB-T and DVB-ASI.

CodecCaster offers a high-performance real-time transcoding solution for IPTV streams in MPEG-2 or AVC/H.264 format. The world-class encoder of CodecCaster allows for greatly reducing bandwidth requirements of streams while keeping to the original quality, which makes CodecCaster the ideal tool for supporting multiple devices and screens, and adaptive streaming at different bitrates using HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and other protocols.

TimeshiftCaster is an IPTV server which allows for compensating for time zone differences by rescheduling live feeds.

Being compatible with existing conditional access systems, OTT streaming servers, and set-top boxes, all Motama products can be seamlessly integrated into your existing infrastructure.
