HBO Signs Six-Year Deal with Conviva for HBO Go Video Stream Optimization on Select Platforms

Landmark Deal Highlights Importance of High-Quality Viewer Experience for Consumers.

San Mateo, CA(23 Jan 2013)

Conviva, Inc., the global leader in preemptive video stream optimization, today announced a landmark six-year deal with Home Box Office, Inc. for Conviva to continue to provide video optimization support for HBO’s broadband offerings, HBO Go and MAX Go.   The deal comes at a pivotal moment in the digital entertainment industry when consumer demand for a seamless and consistent TV experience on any device at any time is growing at an unprecedented rate while the technical challenges of delivering TV over IP devices have never been greater.  HBO continues to be a leader in this space, building on the latest innovations and content distribution platforms, to bring its programming libraries online though its highly successful and acclaimed broadband offerings HBO Go and MAX Go.

The deal marks a continuation and expansion of Conviva’s partnership with HBO, first announced in May 2011, when HBO became an early mover in the TV Everywhere initiative, providing its subscribers with HBO programs and movies on a variety of digital platforms.  The deal also expands Conviva’s suite of service offerings to HBO’s international partners to help support the distribution of HBO Go internationally.

“Television is rapidly expanding to the Internet,” said Conviva CEO Darren Feher. “We enable our partners to reprioritize and invest in areas where they can innovate, while Conviva focuses on providing a consistent high quality, protected experience for their loyal viewers. HBO Go is an exceptional example of the success our partner strategy is able to deliver."

HBO Go uses Conviva’s Precision Video and Insights technology on select Conviva-supported platforms to protect viewers from buffering interruptions. With Conviva, HBO is able to analyze the viewers’ experience with real-time Insights and optimize each individual engagement by using Precision Video to maintain optimal bitrate and CDN stream source.

“HBO viewers expect a high-quality viewing experience regardless of device or location,” said Otto Berkes, Senior Vice President, Digital Products, HBO. “HBO is committed to TV Everywhere. Conviva’s leadership in real-time stream optimization has made Conviva a natural partner for our success in TV Everywhere.”
