Family Reach Gets Out of the Kitchen with Akamai

Akamai and Brightcove partner to live stream Family Reach's Cooking Live

Cambridge, Mass.(02 Nov 2015)

Akamai and Brightcove partnered to live stream Cooking Live by Family Reach, an organization that helps families battling cancer with out-of-pocket medical expenses and everyday living costs.

Created by chef Ming Tsai four years ago, Cooking Live brings together some of the nation's top celebrity chefs to raise awareness of the impact of cancer on families and to cook for some of the families involved with Family Reach.

Cooking Live takes place on Monday, November 2, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. ET. Renowned chefs Masaharu Morimoto, Bryce Shuman, Ken Oringer and Johnny Iuzinni will join host Ming Tsai and celebrity sous chefs Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as they prepare a five-course meal while addressing the serious needs Family Reach addresses on a daily basis.

Typically, around 160 guests attend the Cooking Live event each year. When Akamai was made aware of the event and the great things that Family Reach does, it sought a way to help; and what better way than by helping to increase awareness of the organization's work and reach of the event through live streaming.

Working with its partners at Brightcove to deliver the program live, Akamai will expand the viewership from hundreds of in-person attendees to potentially millions via the Internet. This increased exposure will help to raise awareness of the serious issues faced by families fighting cancer, and hopefully spur even more community participation to assist these deserving families.

Akamai is proud to provide its Media Services Live in support of Cooking Live. This offering supports rapid deployment and high quality for live events at scale. The event will also be stored for on-demand viewing on Akamai's cloud-based NetStorage platform. Through Akamai Media Analytics, the Family Reach team will be able to monitor the user experience in real-time and make any adjustments needed.

The Akamai solutions are working in conjunction with Brightcove's live video workflow, including its content management system (CMS) and media player for Cooking Live. Collaborating with Brightcove allows Akamai to provide a highly integrated, superior end-to-end media delivery solution for Family Reach.
