Frost and Sullivan TCO Analysis Highlights Advantages of SaaS-Based Live Video Multiscreen Solutions Elastic Scalability, Evolving Feature Sets and Rapid Time to Market Cited as Cost Advantages over Traditional Hardware Solutions

At IBC today, iStreamPlanet is announcing the availability of a new whitepaper by Frost & Sullivan that provides content owners and distributors a framework and analysis of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of cloud-based live encoding services

Las Vegas, NV(11 Sep 2014)

iStreamPlanet, the leader in live, announced today the availability of a new whitepaper by media technology analyst firm Frost and Sullivan that provides content owners and distributors a framework and analysis of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of cloud-based live encoding services versus traditional hardware encoding solutions.

Demand for more live content across all connected devices is driving broadcasters of all sizes to evaluate the capabilities of their current live encoding and packaging solutions to meet new technology and business requirements. Frost and Sullivan’s analysis found that cloud-based services such as iStreamPlanet’s Aventus provide critical time to market advantages in testing, piloting and deploying new live multiscreen services. The rapid time to market drives top line revenues that are often overlooked in TCO exercises. The top line increases, combined with the bottom line capital expenditure savings, place cloud services in a favorable position, even for live linear, multi-channel deployments.

“Many industries are moving to the subscription-based economy and we have always believed that this approach provides the best solution for content owners and distributors who are ready to embrace the opportunity in live, multiscreen video services,” said Jennifer Baisch, vice president of marketing for iStreamPlanet. “Aventus customers gain first to market advantage because they have resources at their fingertips to rapidly launch new channels and events without incurring large capital investments. Plus they get the additional benefit of a service that’s always up to date with the latest technologies.”

Frost and Sullivan’s TCO framework uncovers several areas that are often overlooked in a TCO analysis including personnel costs and costs of upgrading equipment to keep pace with technology, two high cost items that are included in the Aventus service.

“Media enterprises are rapidly outgrowing their current live video encoding infrastructure as they struggle to meet the multiscreen mandate from both customers and shareholders,” said Avni Rambhia, digital media industry analyst with Frost and Sullivan. “What we’ve found is that most internal TCO analyses miss these critical elements that have a huge impact on bottom line costs, and that topline revenues are overlooked completely leading to greatly skewed results.”

The whitepaper can be downloaded from the iStreamPlanet website: www.iStreamPlanet.com. iStreamPlanet will be demonstrating Aventus at IBC 2014 in Amsterdam, at the Okura Hotel in the Sakura Room.
