Roku Gets YouTube Channel, Finally

Article Featured Image

Roku 3 owners, rejoice, because at long last YouTube has come to the Roku. The YouTube channel should now show up in the Roku Channel Store (although, as of this writing it didn't for this reporter), finally bringing the biggest video sharing site to the biggest name is set-top boxes. YouTube was available in the living room before this, on consoles and the Chromecast, for example, so Roku must have been feeling a little left out.

The YouTube channel is currently limited to Roku 3 owners in the U.S., Canada, and the Republic of Ireland. Those who own other Roku models will need to wait until sometime in 2014 for the YouTube channel.

The YouTube channel offers some Chromecast-like integration, as smartphone or tablet owners can pair their device with their Roku and, if they're on the same Wi-Fi network, send YouTube videos directly to their television.

YouTube videos are available in HD. Viewers can sign in to their YouTube accounts to view their subscribed channels.

Roku introduced the Roku 3 in March, 2013. The Roku 3 includes a motion remote for gaming, and the remote includes an audio jack. It lists for $99.99, but is currently on sale in the Roku store for $89.99 with free shipping.
