Wired Announces Availability of Digital MediaPress Software

Wired (http://www.wiredinc.com), a subsidiary of Media 100 ( http://www.media100.com) today unveiled Digital MediaPress, a real-time encoder of DV content to MPEG format.

Wired is a digital video company specializing in MPEG solutions. It was acquired last month by hardware maker Media 100.

"Digital MediaPress addresses the rising market demand for delivery of dynamic media on DVD," said Tom Burke, chief executive officer of Wired. "Digital MediaPress allows anyone with DV content to convert it to DVD-compliant MPEG format in realtime. The fact that it delivers such great quality in realtime is exciting in itself. But, when you factor in Digital MediaPress' ease of use and sub-$500 price, you truly have a breakthrough product."

Digital MediaPress offers a PCI board which, when installed into a FireWire-equipped PC, allows the user to import DV content and convert it to MPEG. Users can plug a DV camera into a computer via the IEEE1394 port and convert it into MPEG in real-time.

This conversion can mean lots of extra disk space since the DV format takes up roughly ten times the amount of space that MPEG-2 does.

Digital MediaPress is priced at $499.
