The Latest Online Network: Jason Calacanis's This Week In

Revision 3, Next New Networks, Blip.tv, and now This Week In.

Online video is still in its infancy, so it's the perfect time to start a new online video network. The latest offering comes from Jason Calacanis, (Mahalo, Weblogs, Inc) who has just raised $300,000 from investors and friends to build up This Week In.

Like Revision 3, This Week In is firmly based around the plugged-in viewer and the online world. The young network's eight shows include This Week in Startups (hosted by Calacanis), This Week in iPad, and This Week in Twitter.

According to an article on TechCrunch, Calacanis asked Mahalo's CTO Mark Jeffrey to take the CEO job at This Week In. The network's eight shows are already getting 450,000 downloads or live streams per week. The network's videos are delivered by Ustream. Shows go out live and are available as downloads after recording.

In this online video venture, Calacanis aims to recreate what he did with Weblogs, Inc:

"Exact same model as Weblogs Inc," he says: "Try a bunch of different shows, recruit tons of talent and double down on big winners. It's blogging all over again... the land grab is on!" TechCrunch quoted him as saying.
