Surfnet streams lectures

The academic broadband network Surfnet is to introduce webcasted lectures and scientific experiments for students.

From the beginning of 2002 there will be daily shows of at least 2 hours, which will be repeated for the rest of the day.

The channel, currently run under the name Surfnet-tv, currently shows documentaries or live recordings from conferences occasionally, but this new strategy should see a massive increase in content available to remotely-located students.

The organisation is reportedly in talks with prpospective content providers including Delft University, a journalism school, and several cultural institutions.

SURFnet is the national computer network for higher education and research in the Netherlands, and also provides broadband connections for student housing.
