Quake Shakes Seattle Companies

Activate Grand Central had a big welcome on Wednesday, when a mighty earthquake shook Seattle, closing businesses and causing moderate damage. Activate said that the quake caused no "visible damage," but that people were evacuated to check for structural damage on the historic building. According to the company, Activate didn't experience any service interruptions.

StreamAudio, too, announced that its operations weren't interrupted. The company said that the staff "hung onto doorways or ducked under desks to ride out the quake."

Bob Case, CEO and co-founder of StreamAudio said, "We've built out a robust, redundantstreaming solution for our partner stations. But we never thought a 6.8scale earthquake would test us. We're thankful our careful technicalplanning helped our streaming system continue to operate flawlessly."

RealNetworks was rattled as well. Calls to the company headquarters revealed that RealNetworks employees were sent home shortly after the quake. By all appearances, it didn't suffer any outage — its Web site was up and no outages were reported.
