Marriott Guests Can Access Netflix Accounts for In-Room Streaming

One more thing to pack when going on vacation: The household Netflix account name and password. In a first-of-its-kind deal, Marriott Hotels and Netflix are bringing in-room streaming to Marriott guests. Using an on-screen app, guests will be able to sign into their accounts and binge watch their favorite shows like they do when they're home.

The custom app used by Marriott includes some helpful features for hotel stay: Guests staying more than one night won't need to sign into their accounts over and over. Instead, the app will remember their information. When guests check out, all information will be erased so there's no chance of someone else using the account.

Marriott is debuting Netflix access at six properties in New York City; San Jose, California; Princeton, New Jersey; Newport, Rhode Island; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; and Bethesda, Maryland. It will expand the service to 100 properties by the end of this year, and to most of its over 300 U.S. properties by the end of 2016. Netflix access is also available in over two dozen U.S. hotels that represent Marriott's international brands. In the future, Marriott will expand access to its other brands.

In testing prior to this announcement, Marriott found that up to 26 percent of guests used on-screen internet apps, when available. Of those who did, most accessed Netflix.
