Livestream Launches Broadcaster Mini, $295 Compact Encoder

Live webcasting service Livestream debuted its newest piece of hardware today, the $295 Broadcaster Mini. This live stream encoder is one-third the size of Livestream's original Broadcaster, making it pocket-size, the company says. It offers 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi and a rechargeable Li-on batter good for over two hours of live streaming. It can stream live video up to 1080p resolution at 4Mbps. Broadcasters can set up and control the encoder via a free Livestream app available for iOS and Android portables.

The Broadcaster Mini works by connecting to any HDMI-equipped camera using its micro-HDMI port, and encodes into either H.264 or AAC. The encoder comes with a combination camera shoe/tripod/strap mount, a 36-inch USB cable, and an 18-inch HDMI cable.

Livestream also announced it will release an update to its original Broadcaster encoder soon. An updated model, Broadcaster Pro, will debut this quarter.

“Today’s launch marks the latest in Livestream’s efforts to democratize live video, and it offers a wireless solution to mobile live streaming at a more affordable price," said Livestream CEO and co-founder Max Haot. "Without having to be tethered to a wall with an Ethernet cable, users are free to broadcast live from more locations and more places within those locations."
