Intel Online Services Beefs up BBC Technology's Streaming Services

Intel Online Services announced that it will provide co-location services to BBC Technology for the delivery of the BBC's streaming media service to global business clients.

BBC Technology Ltd. began trading on March 31, 2001 as a wholly BBC-owned commercial subsidiary in order to generate commercial revenue, while continuing to serve all the technological needs of the BBC's public service operations. BBC Technology offers broadcast and digital media technologies including Web hosting, streaming delivery, broadcast services, consulting and more.

According to the agreement BBC Technology will utilize Intel Online Services data center near Reading in the UK to host its streaming media service.

"Intel Online Services' highly secure and reliable data center gives us the ability to double our capacity and provide service to commercial customers,'' said Philip Langsdale, chief executive of BBC Technology in a statement. "The expertise we have gained in supporting BBC programming on all platforms puts us in a unique position to offer that expertise to other media communications companies.''

Also, BBC Technology has purchased some of Intel's streaming media assets from Intel's former Internet Media Services, which the companies claim will enable BBC Technology to double their streaming media capacity.
