EURO 2000 Web Site Set To Break Online Record

EURO 2000 will become the world's most popular web site. Internet giant PSINet (NASDAQ: PSIX) is expecting up to 150 million ‘hits' a day next summer when football fans throughout Europe will want online updates on their national team's progress. This compares to 70 million hits a day for the World Cup France 98 and less than a million hits a day for EURO 96. In the last few years, Internet usage has surged throughout Europe and shows no sign of slowing down; consequently PSINet is engineering the EURO 2000 web site to ensure it will be able to service this phenomenal demand.

PSINet today announced their multi-million euro sponsorship of the UEFA European Football Championship which takes place in Holland and Belgium this summer. This is the first time an Internet solutions provider has become a full sponsor of a major football tournament and demonstrates the incredible speed at which electronic communications are developing. PSINet will be a new name alongside more traditional football sponsors, such as MasterCard, Coca Cola, Philips, McDonald's and others.

PSINet is the global leader in business Internet solutions and owns a state-of-the art worldwide network that is optimized for efficient transmission of Internet data. In addition, PSINet has built a hosting center in London's Docklands, which is a $50 million facility dedicated to hosting the equipment which powers hundreds of leading web sites which typically serve a global customer base. PSINet's new hosting center, to be opened in Amsterdam later this year, will increase its European capabilities and host the EURO 2000 web site.

"We believe PSINet is a perfect partner for EURO 2000 as we have a track record in delivering a service to an enormous audience", said PSINet's European marketing director, Robert Offley. "We look forward to using our state-of-the-art technology to ensure millions of football lovers across Europe will be able to follow their team's fortunes 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Harry Hobbs, PSINet's European President commented, "We are making a major investment in football because we believe that no other sport generates the same levels of interest, excitement and name awareness."
