Digital Island and Excite@Home Team Up
Digital Island (www.digitalisland.com), a provider of managed Internet infrastructure, announced an alliance with Excite@Home (
www.excite@home.com) . Working together, the companies are aiming to improve the delivery of streamed audio and video to Excite@Home's broadband subscribers.
To achieve this goal Digital Island will connect its content delivery network to Excite@Home's IP backbone, which will enable Digital Island's customers to send content directly from their corporate Web sites to Excite@Home's broadband subscribers.
As part of the agreement, Digital Island will deploy its servers, using patented technology, to connect at key points on Excite@Home's 15,000-mile network. The software and servers are touted by Digital Island to increase the speed, performance and reliability of content. Through this integration, Excite@Home will become part of Digital Island's NextEdge program, which the company claims enables broadband networks and Internet Service Providers to improve performance for their subscribers and reduced bandwidth usage.
"Excite@Home users are ideal candidates for the high-value, graphically-rich content that many Digital Island customers provide on their Web sites," said Tim Wilson, chief marketing officer at Digital Island. "By linking our Footprint network with Excite@Home, we can help guarantee a great Web experience that extends from the home to the Web site and back again."
