With more companies of every size getting into online video creation and distribution, there's a strong need for simple media serving. At this year's NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada, DVEO answered that call with the release of its Atlas Media Server, a server that doesn't require a complex set-up.

"The Atlas Media Server is just a wonderful new media server from DVEO. I think that there's been a hole in the market for a server that's shipped turnkey and provides all the features that are needed for modern media servers," said Laszlo Zoltan, DVEO's vice president. The Atlas is a strong fit for any size organization. "Just about any company, any consumer, provider of media content would be a good target for DVEO's media server, the Atlas Media Server. We're targeting from small- to large-size users. We see that people are going to consume media servers in-house as well as in the content distribution."

What sets the Atlas Media Server apart is that it ships ready-to-go. Publishers can start streaming video without complicated IT support.

"The basic difference is that we offer a turnkey solution," Zoltan added. "Turnkey solutions are much more convenient for a lot of people who do not wish to engage technical people to set up and configure their own servers. There's been a hole in the market as far as we could see."

For more on DVEO's offerings, watch the interview below.

Eric:  I'm Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, editor of Streaming Media, and we're here at NAB 2015, talking to Laszlo and Sergio from DVEO. They are here showing off a number of things, but specifically, we want to talk to you today about your Atlas Media Server.

Laszlo:          Yes.

Eric:   Tell us about what the Atlas Media Server is.

Laszlo:          The Atlas Media Server is just a wonderful new media server from DVEO. I think that there's been a hole in the market for a server that's shipped turnkey and provides all the features that are needed for modern media servers.

Eric:   Okay. And what sort of companies are a good fit to use Atlas Media Server?

Laszlo:          Just about any company, any consumer, provider of media content would be a good target for DVEO's media server, the Atlas Media Server. We're targeting from small- to large-size users. We see that people are going to consume media servers in-house as well as in the content distribution.

Eric:   Mm-hmm. And what about for pay TV providers? How are they going to be able to use Atlas Media Server? Of course, they're always wondering, how is my content going to be protected?

Laszlo:          Of course, pay TV providers are users of very large-scale media server deployments. Of course, they want content protection because they have high-value content. We provide AES-128 content protection today, and shortly we will provide Verimatrix content protection as well.

Eric:   Mm-hmm. Okay, all right. How is the Atlas Media Server different from other media servers on the market?

Laszlo:          Good question. The basic difference is that we offer a turnkey solution. Turnkey solutions are much more convenient for a lot of people who do not wish to engage technical people to set up and configure their own servers. There's been a hole in the market as far as we could see.

Eric:   I see that the Atlas Media Server comes in three sizes. What are the differences between the sizes, and how does each size fit different customer needs?

Sergio:          The main difference is in capacity on the server, from the dual CPUs to single CPUs. But the basic difference in the number are simultaneous user support. Smaller size, we support 8,000 simultaneous users at about one megabit. The next size is for 20,000 users. At our enterprise size, we support 64,000 simultaneous users on a single machine.

Eric:   And they're all turnkey machines? Even with the different sizes, they're all turnkey machines?

Sergio:          They're all turnkey machines.

Eric:   Okay, so really, if you're a customer looking for a hardware media server solution, you've got several options with the Atlas Media Server, and each one's going to be as easy to use as the other one.

Sergio:          Correct.

Laszlo:          Yes. It's one common code. Essentially, the differentiator is the platform. There's a 1-RU, 2-RU, 3-RU platform for different IP interfaces and different amounts of memory.

Eric:   All right, very cool stuff to hear from DVEO. We're talking with Laszlo and Sergio from DVEO here at NAB 2015.
